The Basics of Video Editing
Skill Twenty Nine: The Transition Room
The transition room is a great room! It is filled with transition effects that will connect clips in creative ways. I am sure you have watched a movie where one section of the movie fades out while the next section fades in. This is what a transition is. There are dozens of transitions built into PowerDirector, plus you can download even more!
To enter the transition room just open the door! Click on the "Transition Room" icon to the left of the PowerDirector main window.
Once you're in the transition room, click on "All content" to see all of the transition effects that are in your transition room. You can also click on the folders listed below to see transitions grouped in various categories, like "2D", "3D", and more.
To preview a transition effect, just click on it. You will see a preview of the animation in the preview window to the right. This will give you a rough idea of what the transition will look like when you apply it to your movie.
To apply a transition to clips in your movie, simply drag a transition effect to the seam where two clips overlap. You may have to magnify the timeline to see the actual transition once it is dragged into place. You will see a yellow rounded square when the transition is ready to be inserted. Release your mouse button and it will drop into place.
If you wish to edit the transition, select it by left-clicking on it. Notice that once you select it the "Modify" and "Duration" links become visible. You can also crop the transition itself to make it longer or shorter. Once you're happy with the transition, you might want to preview that part of your movie to see how the transition looks.
