Hello! I am Spencer B. I have studied music composition, music education, and guitar at the University of North Dakota. I love teaching music, and focusing on what students are interested in learning while providing a solid foundation of music knowledge and technique. I want to share the joy and rewards that I have experienced from learning music with others.
I have 30 years experience as a musician and 19 years of private teaching experience instructing guitar, bass guitar, ukulele, piano, mandolin, banjo, saxophone, drums, and music composition.
During my times studying in the music program at the University of North Dakota, I performed in the University Band (on tenor saxophone) and in the UND Guitar Ensemble. As a composer, I received the Outstanding Achievement in Composition Award in 2008, 2011, and 2015, and was the winner of the UND Iron Composer competition in 2014.
I enjoy performing in numerous groups, solo, and in pit orchestras for many theatre companies in the North Dakota/Minnesota, USA region. With my diverse background and experience, I strive to meet the individual needs of each student.
I want students to find and embrace their musical self while having fun! Since I teach many instruments and styles of music, students will be free to explore wherever they want to go musically, from learning and studying an instrument, to receiving additional help with their school and ensembles, to writing a symphony! All ages and levels of experience are welcome! Feel free to contact me with any questions or to schedule a lesson!
