Clementi, Sonatina in C Major, Op. 36, No. 1, Andante
I made the video recording below for Jessica, one of my students. It is not a perfect recording by any stretch of the imagination, but after about fifteen attempts, all with significant errors, I decided to post this one. You'll no doubt notice a few mistakes in this rendition too, but it's the best I can do for now. (I recorded this only a few hours after doing yardwork so please forgive my scruffy appearance.)
If I may critique my own playing, here are some observations:
1. The tempo is too slow.
2. The dynamic balance of the hands is not even enough, with some notes too loud in context.
3. A couple of unintentional pauses interrupt the flow.
4. There are two or more wrong or omitted notes.
This is the second movement of the sonatina, which serves as a contrast to the faster first (see my recording here) and third movements.
Clementi was a contemporary of Mozart and Beethoven. He was a prolific composer and piano virtuoso.
