Skill Ten: How to split a clip into one or more parts
Just like you can tear a photo or scrap of paper in two or more parts, you can split clips. "Why would you want to do this?", you may ask. Let's say you have imported a very long video clip - ten minutes let's say - into your media library, but you don't want to use the whole thing. Perhaps you want to use the first three minutes, skip the middle, then use the last two minutes. You can use the "split" command.
Here's how you do it. First, make sure the video clip you want to split has been dragged to the timeline. Second, select it by left-clicking it. Third, drag the range selector to the point in the slip you want to split it. Fourth, right-click the clip. A pop-menu will appear. Fifth, left-click "Split" on the pop-up menu, or push the "s" key. You'll notice that the clip has been cut (split) where the range selector is. You can use this technique multiple time on the same clip.
