Concertino for Guitar on a Spanish Melody (1970) for Guitar and Orchestra, OI 25
(Concertino para Violão sobre melodia espanhola (1970) para Violão e Orquestra, OI 25)
This is is an arrangement from earlier in Ernst Mahle's career for a solo guitarist accompanied by a small orchestra ( single woodwinds, horn, percussion, piano, and strings). It is based on a Spanish melody and is very accessible from both listening and performing standpoints. The guitar part is of intermediate/early advanced difficulty and the orchestral parts are playable by a student orchestra. The guitar is given two cadenzas, one that is twenty-one measures long and a second that is nineteen measures long.
Ernst Mahle also arranged a piano reduction of this piece so it can be performed by a guitarist with piano accompaniment. The piano part is not difficult. This is a wonderful work for a budding guitarist to work on and perform with piano accompaniment.
The full score, guitar solo, a piano reduction with guitar part, and each individual orchestral part are available free for download below. This music was engraved by Jeff Anvinson based on originals in paper form by Ernst Mahle.
